Distinguished friends, family, and associates,
In what I am pleased to announce is becoming an annual tradition, on Sunday the 29th of September, I’m going to put on my finest glad rags, hop onto my Triumph motorcycle, and join over 120,000 passionate people across the globe in the 2019 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. The purpose of this adventure is to raise funds to find a cure for prostate cancer and to fund initiatives that provide men’s mental health resources. It is an event and a cause I feel was practically made for a fella like me. And this year, this cause hits particularly close to my heart.
As you may know, my family lost my brother John to cancer earlier this year. I believe that he also suffered for much of his life from undiagnosed and untreated depression. During his last months with us he gave away most of what he owned to people who had lost everything in the NorCal Camp Fire. John was a kind, sensitive, and overwhelmingly generous person; and it is in his loving memory and charitable spirit that I am dedicating our fundraising effort this year.
I am making a small ask aimed at a great many people whom I hold in high esteem to reach our goal. They say many hands make light work, don't they? Please consider making a pledge of any amount with which you are comfortable at my DGR fundraising page here:
This year, we are aiming particularly high with a goal of $5000 because last year, due completely to the generosity of you, my extended community, we raised close to $3K; placing our collective effort in the top 7 fundraisers for Los Angeles. I know we will reach our goal this year, because I know who we are: We are the ones who show up for each other.
Many of us have a personal connection to the causes this ride supports. We have friends who have survived prostate cancer, and we have friends who have not. We have, all of us, lost too many friends to suicide and mental health issues—some of us recently. Ultimately, the connection to these causes may reside within our own personal life experience as well.
Please join me in supporting The 2019 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. More information about the programs funded by this effort is available here:
Thank you in sincerest gratitude,
Yours Very Truly,
